More than half a century after American Pie first changed the shape of popular music, the original troubadour, Don McLean returns to Australia this October to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the song that continues to define generations.

Still touring, still performing and still drawing audiences who have lived with these songs for decades, McLean’s upcoming shows offer something increasingly rare, the chance to see one of the great American songwriters of the modern era performing the music that became part of the cultural fabric of the last half the 20th century and beyond.

From the moment the opening lines of American Pie ring out, through to enduring favourites including Vincent (Starry, Starry Night), Castles in the Air, And I Love You So and more, these are not simply concerts but shared memories revisited in real time.

Along with the songs, McLean reflects on their origins and the path that took them around the world, sharing stories and memories that bring an added intimacy to the live experience.

At 81, McLean remains a commanding presence on stage, delivering the songs exactly as audiences want to hear them - with warmth, clarity and the unmistakable voice that has carried them across five decades. For many, this tour will be a chance to reconnect with music that has soundtracked entire lifetimes. For others, it may be the first and only opportunity to witness one of song writing’s most influential figures in person.

Yet a Don McLean performance has always been about more than a single hit. His catalogue stands as one of the most enduring bodies of work in contemporary song writing.
